        Doc,

If sustained heat is what kills medicine in herbs mostly, is it still harmful to plant medicine to have a quick blast of steam that supposedly kills bugs that may be in/on the plants?  Steam forms from boiling water at 212 F and any insect will be killed at 212 F per the internet. And if boiling water can be put over dried herbs for tea, and they still have medicine, then it makes me ask about steaming herbs for bugs too. Could you explain this? Thanks!

Bugs typically abandon harvested plants. I’ve never worried about it. If there are a lot of bugs, like aphids or something, I don’t harvest that plant.

I think steaming stuff would likely increase the chance of mold and may affect medicinal potency of some plants.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
