StudentBack in June my husband had a mole removed from the lower, outer part of his leg. After biopsy came back with active cells, his Dr went in again and took a larger portion aprox 3″x3″ from his leg. He was told that due him having so little fat on his leg, yeah how would that be, that he would more than likely have to do a skin graft to close that wound. Thank heaven that procedure was avoided. When we took the dressing off and it looked as if a shark had taken a bite out of his leg….. needless to say kinda freaked him out. I was determined to help him heal from the surgery with as little scaring as possible. On his return to the Dr to have his stitches removed, he had to see the resident, with whom he was less than impressed. At any rate the resident insisted the stitches were good to come out….
The very next day the incision did pop open….I tried to get him to use the Complete Bone & Tissue (which had to reformulate to take the comfrey out) from Dr. Christopher on it, but he was hesitant, so I decided to use Pericarp Oil ( made from the rind of the Mangosteen fruit) it worked quite well. Although after it popped, it began to separate in the center where the initial biopsy was done. Now had I been far enough along in my studies, I would’ve seen the awesome duct tape suture.
I did use the Burn paste (Comfrey, Honey and Mineral Oil) from Dr. Christopher for the 2 weeks following. It was healing well, however the wound continued to open, it wasn’t deep, I tried to explain to my husband that it was healing from the bottom up. Anyway, pretty sure some divine intervention hit me in the head, so to speak and I skipped ahead to Wound Management module in my lessons. That’s when I saw Max… I immediately got the Poultice and started putting that on his wound. I mixed it with water at first and it was sticking to his wound and freaked him out, hind site maybe I wasn’t using enough water. I decided to mix it with mineral oil, Bingo!! That did the trick!! Finally he said that he will trust me to do what is best. We did roughly 12 on 12 off as the head wound case did, being that was very similar to his wound.
Anyway, my question after all that is. Now that he is on the tail end of the healing, should I continue to use the poultice, or start using the poultice tincture and dab it on? I did send an email back on the 7th asking this question, with accompanying pictures but hadn’t heard anything back as of yet. So knowing Doc is a very busy man, I decided to ask here and see what I can find out.
Thank you for humoring me and reading through this, I wasn’t sure pictures would be appreciated, so I chose to refrain from adding any as not to induce any shivers as you saw them unexpectedly.
Thank you in advance for any input. Have a great day!
Enjoy the Journey!!

Dr. Patrick Jones
Homestead InstructorGood work Christine. :0)
I haven’t seen the email. :0(
I’d just do some poultice tincture at this point. If it stings, dilute it with 1 tsp tincture to 2 oz water. Once mixed with the water, shelf life is 2-3 days in the fridge.Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
