If the dose of a tincture is for example 5ml is it more effective to take it straight or put it in 1 ounce of water?. Wouldn’t the water dilute the potency and make it less effective?.

Not at all. The herbs are in your body doing what they do. You can put them in a swallow of water a cup or a gallon. They’ll still get where they’re going and do the job.

That said, tincture taken directly without dilution will absorb more quickly than a diluted tincture.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

So taking a tincture straight rather than mixed with an ounce of water is absorbed better but is same potency?. Is there an online materia medica that shows the dosage ranges for herbal tinctures?.

Our recommendation is 10 to 30 drops…. normally. I say normally because some are more sensitive and some, like me, are less sensitive to all or certain medicinal plants. I always suggest starting low and working up to what works for you. Through some techniques, such as muscle testing, you may be able to narrow it down from the get go.
