Taproot Harvesting Tips?

Hi all!

Does anyone have tips or tricks on harvesting herbs with deep taproots like dandelion or burdock?

I just wrestled some teasel up from my clay soil with a hori hori after the long rain the east coast had recently. The frustrated side of me looked long and hard at my post hole digger and was having some ideas, but thought better of it until I could ask.
