We just lost a 6 day old heifer calf to tetanus last night. We suspect it was a hidden infection at the umbilical cord. There was nothing visible that we could see. We caught it early, but didn’t know what we might be able to sse at that point that might have helped.
It is winter here…all snowy…at land the cow had the calf on hay. Everything was looking great, the calf was strong, and then yesterday things started going downhill.
I know that there used to be a product that could be used if caught early, but of course, everything was closed.
Does anyone have advice on what we could have done, if anything?
