New student. I would like to make a few different tinctures to have on hand for breathing problems (ex: asthma attacks) just in case. Which ones would you recommend so I can start getting the herbs I need. Lobelia, cramp bark…?

Yes, lobelia, cramp bark, and gumweed are all excellent herbs to use (singly or in combination) in a lower respiratory formula, for their anti-spasmodic properties.  Additionally, gumweed is a very good expectorant.  Other herbs to consider using in a respiratory support formula are mullein, and marshmallow (or any of the mallows) root.

Hyssop is also very soothing to the bronchi, and yarrow  and culinary sage are also nice additions, especially if the lower respiratory symptoms are being triggered by a head cold.  (At least, these are the herbs I have found to be exceptionally helpful for me, personally.) Pine needles would be great too.

If it is seasonal, allergic asthma, be sure to add some antihistamines like Brigham tea and nettle leaf, and a nice liver stimulant, like dandelion root.

Just got through a three week nasty bug! It started out like broken glass in the back of my throat with a fever, body-aches, sinus congestion, and infected ears. The sore throat was so intense I could not even swallow water. This is nothing I’ve ever experienced in my life. I found two elixirs that worked to get me over this bug. For the sore throat I used apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, one clove of garlic, and combined it with a good bit of honey to make a syrup, then heated it up and put it on the back of my throat when I felt pain. Within a few days the sore throat was gone next I made the second elixir, peeled and chopped, half an onion, and put it in the Nutra bullet, then added the juice of one large lemon. Mix them both into a liquid, poured it into a container and added generous amount of honey to make a syrup. It tasted great! I warmed it up and took a few swigs immediately my ears were unplugged and my cough stopped. I’m not talking about a regular cough. I’m talking whooping cough where are you about to break a rib and can’t stop coughing it was terrible. I pray that no one else gets this sickness but if you do try the simple mixtures the Lord gave our grandmothers. They really work! God bless everyone and stay well. Blessings, Leslie❤️
