Hello. I am an herbal medicine student who want to start selling handmade ointments, balms and syrups using my knowledge of plants and I need some tips on how to stat the business. At the moment I have no time to dedicate in setting an online space to present my products but instead I’d like to start selling at the local markets. This summer I will travel from Italy to Portugal passing through France and north Spain and I’d like to set a stand at the local markets. As I am not really experienced in the world of marketing, I’d love to have some tips on few things as:
-Which type of market should I look for?
-Do I need a licence?
-Who shall I contact?
Thanks a lot in advance. Any help is really appreciated
I have no idea what the laws are in Europe. Here in the US, you can’t make any health claims or mention any disease condition. The only word we’re really allowed to use is “support”. So if you have an arthritis formula, you can’t say “arthritis” or pain or any such thing but you could call it Joint support or something along those lines.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
First do no harm. Choose herbs that are safe, warn against use by children and pregnant women. Put expiry and manufactured date on label. Any cautions or conflicts with medication customer may be taking.
I test my herbal products on myself. I use my own herbal products daily!
Practice great hygiene, sanitize your work area and your containers
Avoid ingredients that shorten shelf life
Doing these simple things shows you are responsible
