StudentI made a liniment for sprains, bruising, and the like today. Unfortunately, I wasn’t thinking straight when I made it, and used a WHOLE PACKAGE of dried habanero chilis from the Latino grocery store. Oh my. I put the soaked cloth on Mr. Fundog’s sprained ankle and he thought his foot was on fire.
:face palm 2: BUT… I had a solution: I rinsed out the cloth, then mixed just a teaspoon of the infusion with a bit of olive oil, To help mitigate the heat. MUCH better! Mr. Fundog still got a warm, tingly srnsation, but not burning. I will use some of the liniment to make a balm. As potent as this stuff is, I will have a LOT of achey balm! I just hope diluting it down won’t detract from the potency of the other hetbs. I don’t really want to make another batch. -

StudentTopic AuthorAll sorted now. 🙂 I simply made an oil infusion of all the same herbs EXCEPT the habanero, then combined both infusions with beeswax to make a balm. It’s warm, but not hot, which is what we want. And I didn’t make as much as I thought– just enough to give some samples to a few friends to beta test for me.

🙂 There is a special place in heaven for the spouses and children of budding herbalists.
🙄 Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I call all my giveaways guinea pig salve/lotion/oil/tea.
I offer small amounts and ask for feedback. They are my guinea pigs. 😛
If they want more when it’s gone, I know it’s good stuff.
Also, Fundog, will you please post your liniment recipe?
Thanks,
Martha

StudentTopic AuthorSure:
Equal parts arnica and Escobar de la vibora. It has several common names, the best thing to do is type in its Hispanic name and look up pictures. I used dried habanero peppers, but I only recommend one fourth in relation to the arnica and escoba. :scared: and since I love in a state where it is legal, I tossed in a few fan leaves from a cannabis plant, but it’s optional. I then covered the whole mess with 80 proof vodka, a 1:4 ratio. I mixed it all up in the blender, then strained it off. If you don’t want the vapors from the vodka, you can hear it on the stove until the vapors burn off. That’s what I did.
