Doc Jones, wondering what your thoughts are on this plant. Continuing to look at what medicinal/beneficial plants to have in my yard/garden.  I tried looking in the Homegrown Herbalist Book and did a search on the forums and didn’t see any information on it. Some said it works like dental anesthesia and another person says they use it on fire ant bites and the pain, itching goes away and no puss pocket develops. So curious about this plant.

The fresh aerial parts are put in a native traditional soup of Brazil called tacaca. I can’t say for it’s medicinal properties but can attest to it’s numbing action. It reduces feeling in the mucous membranes of the mouth and lips, but the effect is quite temporary, a few minutes at most, when eating it. It is definitely a strange experience !

It’s a tropical plant so unless you are living somewhere really nice, it’ll only be an annual. It does have some nice properties.

I’ll do a QuickView on it in the Individual plants section.  If you don’t see it by the end of the week, holler at me…I’m easily distracted. LOL
