I know that cloves is excellent for dental pain. I am interested in knowing if anyone has used it topically on wounds or if there are other alternatives that can be used. Admittedly, yes, I am thinking in terms of survival medicine, i.e. suturing.

I may be getting ahead of myself here, as I am still learning the basics of herbal medicine but I also wonder what can be done with serious stuff, like if a person needs to be safely sedated. These types of questions keeping popping into my head (not sure why I feel so compelled to know), so I thought I would just take a chance and throw the questions out there.

        Thank you in advance!

We’ve experimented with a lot of things. None of them work.

Cloves, yarrow root etc…are good for mucus membrane but the skin is a different matter.

During the apocalypse, I’m planning to have people bite a stick.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Or a club? Can it at least be somebody I’m mad at?

I might do some exploring to see if there are ways to safely put people into a long deep REM state.

Last summer, I somehow got a ‘rash’ on my upper abdomen (figured it was maybe a heat rash or something – I have problems with high summer temps). That rash was SO itchy – drove me crazy! I remember my grampa telling me about using fresh green bean leaves for fungal infections, warts, etc. Anyway, I put together some green-bean-leaf oil and figured I’d experiment on myself – see if that helped the itchy rash at all… Helped a little, but the itch was still insane. In desperation, I added a little clove oil hoping it would help with that itch. It was WONDERFUL!!!! When the itch got too bad, I would put that green-bean-leaf-clove oil on and the itch wouldn’t bother me for hours! Don’t know what the rash was – it’s gone now, but the clove oil did seem to help as a topical “anesthetic” somehow. Just a thought…

Yup. Good for itching (as many things are) not much good for numbing.

Coca leaves (yeah, the kind that grow in the rain forests of South America, and are processed to make cocaine) can be crushed up and used as a topical numbing agent. Not that this information will help you in North America during an apocalypse.

thats interesting… I went to Peru on a missions trip we drank coca leave tea to help us acclimate to the high altitude. its not anything close to cocaine cause that is the leaves altered in the grosses way

Yup, exactly. If people would just keep “drugs” in their original plant form, and use them the way the Good Lord intended, instead of processing and transforming all the goodness out of them, we wouldn’t have a “drug crisis ,” and everyone would be a lot healthier!

I wonder if a California poppy tincture would work…hmmm…I’ll have to try that.
