StudentHey Doc, would you be so kind as to help me figure out what to do about this? Every summer, everyone gets so excited and spends a ton of time outside, in the garden, doing fun things – whatever. And I can only do early mornings – by 10 am, I’m toast and back inside. Most of the time I have to find shade. My thought is that it has to do with my adrenals or my thyroid – what do you think? Is there a prayer that I might be better by this coming summer (our summer doesn’t kick in till June when we can plant outside finally)? Or am I doomed to be a “house flower”? Thank you so much!

StudentTopic AuthorColorado – high altitude desert (8,500’+). This all started (I think), 39 years ago when they did a hysterectomy, and put things back in a different order/place it seems! The heat intolerance doesn’t go back that far, but I think that’s when my thyroid and adrenals started on their eventual divorce from me. If you could help me with the heat intolerance so I could enjoy my garden, I’d love you forever!

Homestead InstructorSo is it exhaustion from the heat or do you actually feel hotter than you think you should?

StudentTopic AuthorThat is a very interesting question Doc. I thought on it and I believe it is both to some degree. I do believe that I feel hotter than others around me especially given that our temps aren’t that hot (though the high altitude does make it feel hotter than the thermometer would tell you it is). But I would guess that there is an exhaustion factor that does play into it to some degree. I can say that I can tolerate the heat MUCH better if I can stay in the shade though. It’s almost like the sun is my enemy in the summer! Thanks for your help – I truly want to get back to loving summer as I did when I was younger!

StudentTopic AuthorUpdate on the heat intolerance. After doing the herbal cleanse, I was able to go on our first vacation in 15 years and it was 100-104. Before the cleanse, I would have been beyond miserable and most likely would have gotten my usual really bad “heat headache”. But since we did the cleanse prior to the trip, though I was hot and “uncomfortable” – I wasn’t miserable in the heat and humidity like I have been for close to 40 years!! Thanks Doc, I don’t know what about the cleanse fixed the heat intolerance, but I am so happy I did the cleanse. Actually many oddball things that have bugged me for years went away!

StudentI adjust my body’s perception of heat (Chicago girl moved to South Carolina) by munching on Sonic ice during the heat.
