Measles has been in the news a lot lately- does anyone know how this was traditionally treated? I’ve seen a calendula mentioned a few times in the lessons but it seemed like that was mainly for the rash. Anyone who grew up in the 50s or 60’s when it was still very common remember what their moms and grandmas did for them? I’m very curious!!

Mom put me in a dim room covered in calamine lotion.  No reading, only one black and white tv in the living room, so no tv. Nothing using the eyes. I seem to remember wearing mittens. The idea was not to use the eyes, don’t scratch. probably an oatmeal bath would have helped. We only had a shower. No tub. The idea was for it to run its course because one would not get it again. Mumps was the same thing…dark room, run its course. there might have been other remedies, but we were poor. I don’t remember any. Soup, lots of soup. Check temperature. I am 72. That’s all I remember.
