I have been so impressed with the value of Doc Jones’ information I intend to sign up for the school later this fall (once the canning is done)…in the meantime, I have a question about treating a stye. I have not been able to find anything online pertaining to herbal treatments so I thought I would see if anyone in the forum has had success with anything in particular.

        Thanks in advance!

This was my first thought: . I don’t know about it for styes in particular, but reading through some of the comments should give you an idea of how people have used it successfully. When I just went to the link, the sixth comment was regarding a bump near the eye. I hope you will post what you try and how it goes for you.

Another thought just came to me… (maybe because of seeing “beelady”) The other night after I got in bed, I realized I had a canker sore on my tongue. I had just signed up on this forum that evening so I did a search to find something to do for it. Propolis came up and I was thinking of going out to get some that I had scraped out of my hives this spring and left in a can outside when I remembered that a friend had given me a little bottle of “canker rid,” and I hadn’t had a chance to try it yet. I got it and put a drop on. I let it sit for a while and then put one more drop on. The next morning I could hardly tell it was there, but I put one more drop on, and that took care of it in short order. The herbalist who told me about it had a very shocking experience when she used it. Her canker sore was in the back of her mouth so she couldn’t put the canker rid right on it and just put a drop on her tongue. Her face turned red and and she felt something happen – like a flash, I think she said. The lady standing next to her (she was looking in a mirror to put the drop on her tongue and someone in the office was watching her) saw her face turn red and asked her, “What happened?” She didn’t know, but she said the canker sore was gone immediately.

Anyway, I realize a stye is not a canker sore, but there are people who believe propolis has a lot of medicinal potential. A Russian man who lives nearby is working on some propolis products. I hope to meet him soon and try to learn from him.

Thank you for the helpful information, Lilacdragonfly! I have a little propolis tincture but was apprehensive about putting an alcohol-based liquid in my eye. The body wash sounds very interesting, and perhaps safer for eyes!

Coincidentally, I have an appointment tomorrow with my eye doctor. Perhaps I’ll see if he has any suggestions, but I suspect it will just to be to use a hot compress, which is what I have been doing, but not very regularly.

I think being concerned about putting an alcohol based liquid in your eye is a really good idea.

I’ve treated eye infections with this tea: Calendula, Eyebright, Plantain, Raspberry Leaf, Cayenne (just a titch of the cayenne).

Haven’t tried it on a stye.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
