Early last summer we took a trip up to Pine with one of our sons and his family. While we were there we noticed several herbs that we were interested in. Two of note were False Soloman Seal and Oregon Grape Root. So, being the herbalist in training that I am and taking advantage of the National Forest I brought some living plant material home. Last fall I transferred the plants from their original temporary bed to one of my raised beds to sleep for the Winter.
A few days ago while out weeding in the beds I noticed that MANY of the False Soloman Seal plants were sending up shoots. I have not seen any of the Oregon Grape Root above ground but a careful probe around the base of one of the stem seem to indicate that at least a few are starting to push up to the surface.
Now the trick is to find a permanent home for them that simulates their original home.
