We were recently informed that West Nile has been confirmed in our county. It was my understanding that this was acknowledged some time ago. I know this is a nation wide concern but somehow it clicks a little more when it affects your own neighborhood.
I did a little research and found that the number one concern is they claim it is NOT curable. Once you got it you got it. No explanation WHY that is, but that is what they say. As in all cases PREVENTION is the number one tool to keep from getting it.
It is a mosquito born disease (at least to date) so strategies that keep mosquitoes from reproducing in your area are critical. The problem is mosquitoes can and do travel considerable distances in search of food sources. That means unless your neighbors are also on board your efforts will only reduce numbers.
Personal protection includes clothing and the application of repellents.
There are herbal strategies for strengthening and supporting your immune system before and after infection.
Specific things about the things I mention are addressed in the two articles linked below.
I am hoping that Patrick or some of you can chime in on this topic. I am specifically interested in why they say there is not a cure for West Nile.
