StudentDo any of you know a good organically grown (doesn’t have to be certified) source for Elder leaves? Doc says the leaves are better medicine than the berries, and I would assume cheaper overall. Any guidance? Thanks!

StudentI know in TN and surrounding areas, elder grows wild. We just collect whatever we need from the wild. Of course, be sure you properly know how to identify it.

StudentTopic AuthorYes, Elena – Not sure about it growing wild here in the mountains of CO, but even if it did, I wouldn’t be confident of my identification of it. I would be more interested in purchasing it from a reliable source that provides FRESH and organic products. Locally, I’ve asked around as to who may have one growing on their property and they would know if it had been sprayed or anything – but no one has been found – yet.

StudentOkay, yeah, it may not grow there. I would offer to send you leaves, but they are not good quality at this time of year. I’m sure you’ve checked Doc’s store, right?

StudentTopic AuthorThanks for the offer Elena – very kind that you would have been willing. I have found a local person who has a bush, so hopefully the leaves are still good – we haven’t gotten freezing weather yet, though we are very, very close! Doc’s Elder products don’t say if they are leaves, berries, flowers, or some combination thereof. So, hopefully the leaves locally will be good enough!
