I have been administering Valerian root tincture quite frequently as a sleep aid. It used to be every day but has thankfully been much less now. I am however worried about the effect of long time use of preparations from the dried root. The plant looks to be an Idaho Native. Does anyone have any tips for locating it or can point me to known patches of it in the SE Idaho area?
I have never seen it in the wild. I have it growing on my property. The roots on my plants are VERY fine and retain a LOT of the growing media that they are in. Is that the reason for the really fine roots? I don’t know. All I know is MY valerian would be very time consuming to get to a cleanliness level where I would be interested in using it for internal use.
Have you looked into other herbs that you could alternate with? Chamomile? Skullcap?
Thanks, for both of your input. I have used chamomile tea but it is usually too mild. I have not used skullcap. The only thing I know about it is the story you tell Doc about hand pressing a tincture of it sans gloves making your every joke like –>  I’ll look in to it some.
For my child the “trama” of going to bed can generate panic attacks and so can nearly any other activity.
