Are all strawberries (even ornamental) edible? Are there any toxic look-a-likes?

I’d need specific species names to opine on plant safety.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Looks like I have Mock Strawberries, as the flowers are yellow instead of white or pink. I read these are not toxic, and still have some medicinal properties. Still looking into it for more information.

Greetings, this is my first post.  I am so happy to see so many amazing topics and couldn’t really decide what to click on first to read on. However, wild strawberries are in full bloom in our area right now. There are extensive wild patches EVERYWHERE and we are looking forward to the weeks to come to do some wild harvest. We have already wild foraged some fiddle heads (ostrich fern) and really, after a light blanch, tastes like crunchy spinach, really yummy!

Love wild strawberries, I have mock strawberries in my yard, potentilla indica here in PA.  They are not toxic- the flowers are yellow. the fruit is upright not dangling, and there’s no strawberry flavor.  On true strawberry the seeds are sunken in, mock strawberry the seeds spike up from the surface.  Saves having to taste them to know!
