My first post, here goes, we have quite a bit of plants growing wild where we live, such as plantain, purslane, pineapple weed and  2 different kinds of yarrow. Looking forward to using them as I learn when to pick and turn them into a tincture, tea or dried in a capsule.

So many wonderful “weeds”.  Dry them and store them for winter,  also infuse them in alcohol, oil, and apple cider vinegar.

            Hello all!!

            My first post…

Probably a beginner question, but here goes.  “When harvesting roots, do we have to dig up the entire plant and can we just take a portion and replant either back where it was located or in our own garden or container… OR do you have to kill the plants to take the roots.  Just for example, my marshmallow overwintered!!  I did not think it would because we are in zone 6B.  I dug it up in the spring not knowing it had spouted until further examination, so I just harvested some of the root structure and then replanted it, praying it would grow.  Surprise, it is wonderfully happy in my container garden!  Can I do that with say, Yellow Dock, Valerian, etcetera?  Biennials, of course they will die, so no worries, there.  Anyone have some experience with this one?  Thank you all for any assistance you may provide.  We are really new at the gardening world, only three years under the belt with fourth growing season coming up fast here in Oklahoma.  Praying over all the folks you will help as a result of these courses through the Grace and Mercy of Our Lord.

            Sincerely,

            TJudd

We recently moved and this year to my delight, some yellow dock sprang up among my raspberries.  I left it last year and have dug one of the plants up this year and plan to leave the other for reproducing to multiply plants in my own yard.  There are few places to wildcraft near me so this is my solution.  BTW…the root was a nice orange yellow  🙂

Some perennials don’t mind if you just take part of the root.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
