Wildcrafting Mullein and Goldenrod in Iowa

My first-time post in order to learn the process and system.  Had an interesting time finding Mullein this year after the optimal time to harvest it, but dug up some roots and transplanted it in my new Wildcrafting Garden – hoping to find it growing ‘naturally’ next Spring.  I also found a large patch of Goldenrod this fall and harvested unopened flowers in late morning.  I put them in my Harvest Rite freeze dryer and was extremely pleased with the results – wish that I would have transplanted some of these as well but hope to next year.  I’m new to Wildcrafting and am now ‘addicted’ to it!

Hi Rebecca, welcome ad thanks for the ideas on a wildcrafting garden.  I am doing a similar thing, and it is driving our farm manager crazy because I want things to flower and grow to seed.

Hi Rebecca. Wildcrafting is fun. Many of the 100+ species on my place got dug up somewhere.

A note on mullein. It’s a biennial, so if you dug roots from flowering plants, they won’t survive another season. You’d have to dig first year roots. Good news is that mullein is happy to grow from seed….REALLY happy. :0)
