Are there any medicinal roots or mushrooms that I should be on the lookout for during winter?

I think it’s highly dependent on where you live and what the winter is like. In the northeast the ground is too frozen to dig roots or grow mushrooms, plus a leaf or flower confirms the plant identification.   This winter I did gather pine tree resin.  I don’t take it from over the bark break, but where the excess had run down.  It’s always sticky, but easier to get when it’s cold and brittle.

I agree with Dee. It’s lots easier to harvest stuff in the fall or early spring than in winter. The only herb that I think is best just after the first frost might be rose hips.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
