My question is can I tincture dried witch hazel and is it just as good as The steam distilled version of witch hazel we buy in the store. And if I use 100 proof vodka, I could dilute it a little with water so it’s not so strong  Would I need to do that?

you can use witch hazel in a tincture you make for swelling any where on muscles and joints it is a wonderful anti-inflammatory . it will reduce swelling .  i use a saturated compress for bruises and sprains. it is far superior to arnica in my opinion. i used it extensively on race horses in my youth and since used it many times on myself , children husband etc.  it is very safe.  i would dilute it with 50 percent water approx. for sitz bath , or swollen eye .. i would avoid internal use…sorry if this came to late to be of use to you…regards, Cali Moon

I made a Witch Hazel tincture using 95% ethyl alcohol and tested it side-by-side with store bought witch hazel. no comparison! Hands down my tincture was far better. I mixed it with an infusion on other herbs for a facial toner.
