Last spring I sat beside my witch hazel shrub wondering at all the very busy tiny bees and noticing the sticky droplets covering my table and everything I set on it.  Slowly I put together that the bees were gathering the bud resin they make into propolis, like honey bees gather from leaf resin of poplar, etc.  And ever since I’ve had the curious notion that this spring I should gather sticky witch hazel leaf buds and warm them in oil.  Just to try it, carefully, topically.

Wondering if there’s any known precedent or precautions?  I’ve found no written/internet discussion of witch hazel resin.  Thanks!

Witch hazel resin has some good anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.  Folks use it for skin conditions topically for things like eczema and rashes etc… It’s been used topically for hemorrhoids too.

I’ve never used witch hazel of any kind. So many plants….so little time. LOL

Maybe someone with some experience with it will chime in.

Awesome – figured those tiny bees were busy with something good.  The witch hazel flowers are out now so I’m looking forward to experimenting in a few weeks.

Hi, I am very new and I’m having trouble with a place to start.  Have you tried harvesting the witch hazel?  What did you make with it and how did you use it? I have used it as an astringent for many years.  Making my own would be a good place to start.

              Have a great day.
