I’m 32 weeks pregnant with #3 and trying to prepare myself for all the fun of after birth 😉 I know there are tinctures and such I can buy premade, but I’d love to take this opportunity to make something myself! What would be some good herbs to use to help calm those terrible after birth uterine pains? With my last baby, those were worse than labor! :crying:

Obviously an anti-spasmodic of some sort–maybe cramp bark? Lobelia doesn’t seem like a good option for this–I don’t want to risk throwing up haha.

And would a nerve calming herb like valerian be good here? Or a pain relief herb like meadowsweet? Would any of the emmenogogue herbs be useful, or is this not a situation they would help?

And then with something like this, would you want to take it consistently throughout the day, or before each breastfeeding session? I’m not sure if you’d want to have them constantly in your system for best effect, or if it’s something you’d take right before you know you’d need it.

Cramp bark (anti-spasmodic) and chamomile (nervine) would be good choices. Black Cohosh would be good as well.

          Here’s the easy button:

Female – Cramp Bark Plus http://homegrownherbalist.net/products/female-formula

A half hour before nursing if nursing is the trigger.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

What would you suggest for post partum hormone balancing?

I’d try some https://homegrownherbalist.net/products/single-herb-tincture. That usually does the trick.

If it doesn’t, let me know.
