        Hi Doc Jones,

I have a family member who has extreme “rope” varicose veins and a “medium” uterine prolapse. She has been to see a couple of doctors, but would far rather go a natural route. She is not overweight, and there is not a family history of either issue, however after the birth of her first child, her pediatrician warned her that if she did not take care of herself by eating properly, the nutrients needed for her baby when nursing would be leached from her body (bones, connective tissue, etc.). She didn’t heed the warning, and is wondering if she is dealing with the results of that.

Do you have any suggestions for herbs or natural methods that might support her body at this time? I made her a horse chestnut lotion to apply to her veins, and was wondering if maybe a nutritive formula would be beneficial if she is dealing with nutrient deficiencies (at least to help slow things down and give the body what it needs to heal). I also know that red raspberry leaf has been known to support uterine health…would that be helpful?

Thank you for any help that you can offer!

I’ve been trying to research uterine prolapse causes, and learned that the muscles supporting the uterus are estrogen dependent/kept strengthened by estrogen, and that post-menopausal women can be more at risk (the family member that I mention who is struggling with this condition is post-menopausal). Do you think herbs containing phytoestrogens (black cohosh, red clover, etc.) would be helpful?

          Thanks again!

Saving the Whole Woman by Christie Kent is a great resource for prolapse strategies.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

P.S. I will definitely be checking out the resource you recommended!

Currently, she is on your menopause support tincture (since estrogen deficiency can potentially affect the strength of the muscles supporting the uterus) & nutritive formula (since she seems to be nutrient deficient) to hopefully stabilize things. I also made her a horse chestnut tincture to support her varicose vein issues.

Thanks again for the recommendation Doc, I look forward on learning how to offer better natural supportive education for my family member through that book!

I prefer horse chestnut tincture topically. It has narrower safety margins than most herbs internally.
