        Random information:  peppermint oil is a great addition to a bowl of steamy herbs to give relief for sinus congestion.  The herbs I use are thyme, sage and rosemary with not more than 2 drops of peppermint oil.  Place a handful of each herb into a bowl, cover with boiling water, add peppermint oil.  Grab a towel and tent yourself over the steamy bowl.  Careful, it’s hot and steamy!

        Other oils I have used: eucalyptus, bay laurel, oregano.  NOT MORE THAN 2 Drops TOTAL

        I have also used peppermint oil to dispel hiccups after anesthesia.  I am brand new to posting so since this involves ingesting the oil I won’t say anything else.  Just that it worked almost instantly!

          My wife uses it topically for headaches. A little on the back of the neck at the base of the skull and a bit  right beneath the nose seems to do the trick.

          Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

                I haven’t had great results with peppermint oil for headaches.  I do note that I have not put peppermint oil under my nose.  Perhaps this location for peppermint oil in addition to the other locations would increase positive results for my headache.

                    In addition to the peppermint oil in places described, I try to get a cup or two of water in me and get relaxed. Usually the water is the best remedy and peppermint is a good second helper.

                      I’ve used peppermint oil and lavender oil on my temples for headaches as it works for me but I will try your suggestion as I love being my own experiment!

                      Kind of a funny thing (?) that I heard once about peppermint oil…  A nurse in a nursing home had a resident who just had a terrible time urinating even though she really needed to go.  The nurse ran out of the room, got a bottle of peppermint oil, put a few drops in the toilet, then had the resident sit and try again.  Boom!  Worked like a charm according to what I read. Why?  I have no idea, and I don’t even know if it is factual or not, but if I ever have a similar problem, I’ll try it to see.

                          This is only speculation of course, but if the menthols in the peppermint oil are effective at opening up a nasal passage that is mucus membrane would it stand to reason that it could help relax irritated  and restricted mucus membranes in the urethra?

                            I have been thinking about this some more and even if the volatile oils of peppermint weren’t assisting the lady’s efforts, I wonder if a cup of strong, hot peppermint tea would help with that kind of problem.  Peppermint is antispasmodic  and anti inflammatory and I know from personal experience how it can quickly relieve gut spasms.  Or would it have lost all its umph by the time it was all absorbed into the bloodstream and passing through the urinary tract system?

                            By the way, I checked the Individual Plants section to read up on Peppermint but he wasn’t there. I would be curious to know what Doc Jones has to say about Peppermint!

                            I have about 192 single herb lessons in various stages of completion. I’ll get the peppermint one up in the next day or so. Didn’t realize it wasn’t there already. :0)

                            Peppermint, like most of its cousins, does have some nervine properties that relax tissue, especially smooth muscles. That’s one of the reasons it make your guts happy. Could be that it was having a similar effect on the urethra of the nice lady. Interesting case.

                              Anyone use peppermint oil on their plants?.  I understand it works well to deter pests/insects.  If so, do you make your own oil?

                                I sprayed some peppermint oil in my flower bed to keep cats out, they are always doing their duty in there.  Havent seen any sign of them comming back.

                                I’ve found a few drops of peppermint oil on a tissue or cotton ball, and stuck on the air vent in my vehicle can help to perk me up when I’m driving long distances, until I can get to a rest area to take a walk.

                                    Laura I love your opening post! What a wonderful use of herbs and oils.

                                    I love mixing essential oils (peppermint and eucalyptus) with a carrier oil and adding them to a steaming bath when dealing with a cold. It has a similar effect as your steaming bowl with a towel.

                                    I’m a certified aromatherapist and before covid I taught aromatherapy classes.  This is a tip I used to teach my classes:  When I’m in a hurry and dont have time for a regular steam, I  do what I call a “mini steam”.  I get a cup of hot water as if I were making a cup of tea, and add a drop of peppermint or eucalyptus oil to it and inhale the vapors.  It works great, it’s quick and easy, and it’s something you can even do at work if you need to.

                                    I use doTERRA oils, because of a bad experience with others (brands and health food store brands) that caused me to be unable to use anything except internally (Digestzen) or aromatically (inhaled) for 18 months. I am very careful now.

                                    We use peppermint to keep the field mice away and the ants 🐜 from our front door. It works well. We have used the oils sparingly with our animals. Highly diluted and areas where they will not get to.

                                    We use peppermint during allergy season heavily.

                                    I would like to get a still. How much did your steel craftsman charge you Doc Jones?

                                        Several years ago I had heel spurs on both heels. I used peppermint lotion every night morning and every night on my heels. About 3 weeks to 4 weeks in I realized while at work one day that my heels weren’t hurting. That’s the only thing I did for them.

                                          For all those that don’t like arachnids ,you can put a few drops around your window sills to ward off any spiders as they hate the smell 🙂

                                          I like to rub peppermint oil on the back of my neck and both of my temples to get rid of a headache. I will also rub a little under my nose just because the fragrance is soothing.

                                          Always keep your eyes closed while rubbing on temples, the vapors can burn a little.

                                            I have used essential oils for 25 years. I have made my share of fresh goat milk soap and have done hours upon hours of studying on the benefits of the oils. I have come up with a blend of peppermint, wintergreen, camphor and marjoram. This I have used on myself for headaches, muscle aches and spasms, and joint pain. Equal parts, but if you want it to smell good, use more peppermint and wintergreen. I use it at work and my co-workers say it smells like a spa which helps with the aromatherapy in our stressful office.  This is my go to oil just for me! I have not used on animals and would not either.
