        Hello all!

I just finished a year of study in midwifery, and we discussed herbs a lot! I thought I’d share some brief (and basic) pointers on some useful herbs to help alleviate common discomforts during pregnancy:

        Morning Sickness
Wild Yam root tea: sip as needed/Ginger root capsules: up to 25/day

        Varicose Veins
Oatstraw tea: 1-2 cups/day Witch Hazel extract: apply topically

        Constipation
Eat prunes, rhubarb, and whole grains daily

        Backache
St. John’s Wort tincture: 15-25 drops in water as needed

        Heartburn
        Slippery Elm lozenges as needed

        Fatigue
Skullcap tincture: 5-15 drops 30 minutes before bed

        High Blood Pressure
Garlic oil capsules: 2-10 daily/Hawthorn berry tincture: 15 drops in water, 2-3x/daily

        Pre-eclampsia
Dandelion leaves eaten raw or cooked as a leafy green

Those are all safe and effective recommendations. :0)

Remember too folks that we have a full list of pregnancy and lactation safe herbs. It’s the first lesson in the Individual plants section. :0)

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
